Money Changers in Jeju, Korea (Cheju Currency Exchange)

Unlike Seoul where money changers can be found everywhere on the street in tourist spots like Myeongdong and Namdaemun, exchanging foreign currency in Jeju can be quite challenging. Here are some places in Jeju where you can find money changers for your travelling needs.

Money Changers at Jeju Airport (Currency Exchange Counter)

If you fly into Jeju, your best place to exchange your foreign currencies to Korean Won is probably at the Jeju International Airport. The reason is because the Money Changer at Jeju Airport is operated by Jeju Bank and accept exchange for major currencies like Euro, US Dollar, Japanese Yen and Chinese Renminbi (RMB). Other currencies such as Singapore Dollar, Hong Kong Dollar, Australian Dollar, British Pound and New Zealand Dollar may also be available for exchange.

The money changer operated by JEJU BANK is located at the ARRIVAL HALL of Jeju Airport, facing GATE 3. It is located next to the Baggage Storage counter. The money changer counter is huge but if you have trouble locating the money changers, follow the signage or ask the information counter.

You may also noticed in the third photo that there are some ATM machines for cash (Korea Won) withdrawal too. However, the screens are mostly in Korean langauge and I am not sure if international ATM network card can be used here.

Currency Exchange at Jeju Hotels and Shopping Outlets

Some hotels, particularly 4 stars and 5 stars hotels in Jeju also provide currency exchange at their front desk counter. However, the exchange rates at these Jeju hotels are generally worse than the exchange rates offered at the Jeju International Airport. Of course, the difference is not much if you just need to exchange a small amount.

Foreign currencies like Chinese RMB, USD, EURO and YEN may also be accepted at some shopping outlets (but this is not very common). However, credit card is very widely accepted at shopping outlets in Jeju.

Currency Exchange at Korean Banks in Jeju

Of course, if you want to exchange a large sum of money, the best way is to do it at the banks in Jeju instead of money changer. Four major Korean Banks has their branch in Jeju city.
  1. Shinhan Bank
    Address: Jeju-do Jeju-si Il-do 1-dong 1298-1 (Jungang Rotary, 500m towards Tap-dong)
    Telephone: 064-752-5500
  2. KB (Kokmin Bank)
    Address: Jeju-do Jeju-si I-do 1-dong 1474-1 (Turn left at the Namun intersection)
    Telephone: 064-758-6171
  3. KEB (Korean Exchange Bank)
Address: Jeju-do Jeju-si Ildo1-dong 1430-9 (Jungang rotary, across the Woori bank)
    Telephone: 064-757-2171
If you decide to exchange your foreign currencies at these bank, it is better to call them before hand to check if they accept your currency and the amount you want to exchange.

Currency Exchange at Jeju

That is it! For tourists, the most convenient place to exchange currencies is at the money changer at Jeju Airport upon your arrival (in my opinion). Of course, you can also exchange at the hotel if you want. As a tips, if you want to get the best exchange rates, it might be better exchange your money in Seoul (for example at Myeongdong) before going to Jeju Island.
